
Upcoming Changes to Employment Law rates and limits
April often signals the start of changes to Employment Law rates and limits and this year is no different.
Below is a roundup of some of the changes to the current rates due to take effect this April.
National Minimum Wage
From 1 April 2024 workers aged 21 and over will be entitled to the National Living Wage and the following rates will apply:-
- National Living Wage (21 and over) £11.44
- Age 18-20 £8.60
- Age 16-17 £6.40
- Apprentice £6.40
- Accommodation offset amount £9.99.
Maternity, Paternity and Adoption
From 7 April 2024, the following rates will apply:-
- Statutory Maternity Pay
- 90% of the employees average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks
- £184.03 (was £172.48) or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings whichever is lower for the remaining weeks
- Statutory Paternity Pay
- £184.03 (was £172.48) or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings whichever is lower
- Statutory Adoption Pay
- 90% of the employees average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks
- £184.03 (was £172.48) or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings whichever is lower for the remaining weeks
Unfair Dismissal
From 6 April 2024, the limit on the amount of the compensatory award for unfair dismissal claims will increase to £115,115 (it was previously £105,707).
Week’s Pay
From 6 April 2024, the limit on a week’s pay for the purpose of calculating a redundancy payment or various other awards will increase to £700 (it was previously £643).
