Compensation Limits – Annual Increase Announced

Upcoming Changes to Employment Law rates and limits

April often signals the start of changes to Employment Law rates and limits and this year is no different.

Below is a roundup of some of the changes to the current rates due to take effect this April.

National Minimum Wage

From 1 April 2024 workers aged 21 and over will be entitled to the National Living Wage and the following rates will apply:-

  • National Living Wage (21 and over) £11.44
  • Age 18-20 £8.60
  • Age 16-17 £6.40
  • Apprentice £6.40
  • Accommodation offset amount £9.99.

Maternity, Paternity and Adoption

From 7 April 2024, the following rates will apply:-

  • Statutory Maternity Pay
  • 90% of the employees average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks
  • £184.03 (was £172.48) or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings whichever is lower for the remaining weeks
  • Statutory Paternity Pay
  • £184.03 (was £172.48) or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings whichever is lower
  • Statutory Adoption Pay
  • 90% of the employees average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks
  • £184.03 (was £172.48) or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings whichever is lower for the remaining weeks

Unfair Dismissal

From 6 April 2024, the limit on the amount of the compensatory award for unfair dismissal claims will increase to £115,115 (it was previously £105,707).

Week’s Pay

From 6 April 2024, the limit on a week’s pay for the purpose of calculating a redundancy payment or various other awards will increase to £700 (it was previously £643).
