Who am I?

I studied law at Manchester University and worked a number of years in inner city Manchester while my children were young. As they grew I set up my own practice in South Manchester then became a partner in a large  firm before “rejuvenating” in 2018 and joining Bromleys as a consultant.

How can I help you?

For me, making a difference whether that is to an individual client, a business, or on an issue of wider importance, has always been key. For many years I undertook litigation, working for those who had suffered a major or catastrophic personal injury. It is as a result of the latter that I have been court appointed trustee to manage damages awarded to pay for accommodation, life time care and anything that will generally be something that adds to my client’s enjoyment of life. It is very rewarding to work with a team of supporting professionals.

I led a group action culminating in reported cases of R v Rent Officer ex parte Saadat and others a judicial review decision that had a great impact on the lives of all housing benefit tenants in Stockport MBC area, and indeed to all housing benefit tenants in England.

I also led in the case of Bottomley v Todmorden Cricket Club (a Court of Appeal decision though the case settled in the House of Lords) which deals with liability of an organisation when recruiting an agent to carry out a dangerous activity on their land – here a pyrotechnic display where the cricket club were not insured for that activity, and did not check those providing the display were.

A bit more about me

I’ve helped establish a Business Improvement District in Stockport (designed to improve safety and footfall) and am a director/trustee of Pure Innovations a charity providing services to about 500 clients with disabilities to leave as independent a life as possible, be it through travel training, supported internships, lego clubs or education.

I’ve always been keen on sport, never good at it, but keen. So as I’m slow I do push myself to go further. I have done a few mountain marathons and the London Marathon but I think creaky knees have put paid to all but an occasional run now! So I’ve moved to swimming over the last few years and in the spirit of going further as I can’t go fast have done an end to end swim of Windermere (10.5miles) and Coniston (5.5 miles) as well as much shorter ones locally in the rivers and tarns whatever the time of year or weather. I have been privileged to be part of a channel relay to raise money for Aspire (a spinal injuries charity) and of Team Artemis undertaking the Race to the North Pole, raising funds for Headway – a charity supporting those with acquired head injuries.

There are many other hobbies – all I enjoy but not very good at from wet felting to singing! More practice needed all round.
